Margaret Moth Dead:who came to Prominence after being almost killed when shot in the face covering the war in Sarajevo, was 59.

She had been traveling down the Notorious “Sniper Alley” when she was shot.

Moth, Margaret Wilson born in Gisborne, was a camerawoman in New Zealand before moving to the U.S.. She began working for CNN in 1990.

Moth had been diagnosed with colon cancer three years ago.

Earthquake Los Angeles & Earthquake California

Earthquake Los Angeles & Earthquake California:The early morning earthquake Los Angeles, California woke up at 4:00 am, 7:00 pm eastern, and was centered about 10 miles east of downtown. The depth was recorded at about 11 miles making it a shallow earthquake. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was felt from San Diego to Santa Clarita.

County fire and rescue officials are still surveying the area. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. However, the earthquake was considerably weak, but it did wake up residents east of the city.

The quake was centered near the October 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake. That was a 5.9 magnitude quake that killed eight people and caused more than $ 350 million in damage. Officials have not identified the fault involved in this morning% u2019s quake.

Pacific Ring Of Fire

Los Angeles is subject to earthquakes due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. The geologic instability produces numerous fault lines both above and below ground. It produces approximately 10.000 earthquakes every year.

One of the major fault lines is the San Andreas Fault. The fault line is located at the boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. It is predicted to be the source of Southern California’s next big earthquake.

Major earthquakes to hit the area include the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake, the 1971 San Fernando earthquake near Sylmar, and the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. However, all but a few quakes are of low intensity and are not felt. Parts of the city are also vulnerable to Pacific Ocean tsunamis caused by the quakes.

San Andreas Fault

The San Andreas fault is not a single fault, but rather an actual fault zone made up of many segments. Movement may occur along any of the fault segments along the zone at any time. The San Andreas fault system is more than 800 miles long, and in some spots is as much as 10 miles deep.

The largest earthquake ever recorded in the United States was a magnitude 9.2 that Struck’s Prince William Sound, Alaska on March 28, 1964. The largest recorded earthquake in the world was a magnitude 9.5 in Chile on May 22, 1960. The Earliest reported earthquake in California was felt in 1769 by the Exploring expedition of Gaspar de Portola while the group was camping about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

The world% u2019s deadliest recorded earthquake occurred in 1556 in central China. It Struck a region where most people lived in caves carved from soft rock. These Dwellings collapsed during the earthquake, killing about 830.000 people. In 1976 another Struck’s deadly earthquake in Tangshan, China, where more than 250.000 people were killed.

Kristen Charbonneau,Jeremiah Scott:The family of Kristen Charbonneau says they have know for four years who killed their daughter – Daniel Moore, a Fort Worth, Texas businessman – they just couldn’t get anyone to listen.

But on Friday David and Monica Charbonneau got the news they had been waiting for, Moore had been arrested and charged with Kristen Charbonneau’s murder.

The 25-year-old exotic dancer was last seen August 11, 2005, leaving Baby Dolls, a strip club near Dallas where she worked. Moore was said to be with her at the time.

Tsunami Warning Hawaii

Tsunami Warning Hawaii:Hawaii was placed on tsunami alert early Saturday after a giant earthquake struck Chile triggering warnings that emergency action should be taken as all its the islands could face damage.

“A tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along coastlines of all islands in the state of Hawaii,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

“Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property,” the Hawaii-based center added.

It warned the first waves could hit at 11:19 am in Hawaii (2119 GMT), and said a tsunami consisted of a long series of ocean waves, with each wave able to last five to 15 minutes.

The center added in its statement that wave heights cannot be predicted and the first wave to hit the coastal ares might not be the highest. Such waves can cause extensive flooding to low-lying areas.

“All shores are at risk no matter which direction they face. The trough of a tsunami wave may temporarily expose the seafloor but the area will quickly flood again,” the statement said.

“Extremely strong and unusual nearshore currents can accompany a tsunami. Debris picked up and carried by a tsunami amplifies its destructive power.

“Simultaneous high tides or high surf can significantly increase the tsunami hazard.”

The 8.8 quake that struck central Chile early Saturday triggered a tsunami warning across the volatile Pacific rim of fire stretching from Japan to the Antarctic.

A sad tragedy happened on a killer whale trainer Dawn Brancheu, she played with the whale moments before she was attacked and brutally killed by her loved killer whale, named Tilikum. The attack was so sudden according the eye-witness, the 40 year old trainer was pulled into the water at The SeaWorld park

Eyewitnesses were horrified to see the whale pulling the hapless trainer in its enormous mouth.

Reports say, that Tilikum already killed three human but it’s still used to entertain the audience
